      <image:caption>Q: What is EMDR? A: Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an empirically proven therapy that was originally developed to treat PTSD. It is now used to treat a wide range of issues, including anxiety, depression, chronic illness, grief, performance anxiety, and acute trauma. EMDR uses bilateral stimulation to help you desensitize and reprocess old stuff so that it loses its emotional power. You can learn more here. Q: What is an EMDR session like? A: EMDR works in phases, so we would work on identifying past memories and trauma that may be contributing to your current life circumstances. Then we would start working to reprocess those memories. EMDR can look a little bit different for everyone and can be a very powerful experience. Q: How long do I need to be in therapy? A: This will be different for everyone. EMDR can often help people start to notice changes within a few sessions. Sometimes clients want to work on multiple issues. We will meet in a way that works best for you and your goals. Q: How do I know if EMDR will work for me? A: EMDR has become one of the most researched therapy techniques and has been found to be very effective, but it is of course not for everyone.
